Apple has named Carol Surface as its first chief people officer, a newly-created role that sees human resources duties shifted from head of retail Deirdre O'Brien. Ms. Surface joins the firm from Medtronic, a health technology company with about 100,000 employees. At Apple, she will oversee a workforce that numbered 164,000 at the end of the company’s last fiscal year in September but which has diminished in the months since after a round of layoffs. |
